Description/Blazon
A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height consisting of a silver Torii gate with silver cloverleaf between the uprights all in front of a maroon cross and contained in base by a green scroll inscribed with the motto "DUTY TO SERVE" in silver letters.

Symbolism
Silver or white and maroon are the colors of the Army Medical Department.  The Torii gate is a reference to the Ryukyus Islands where the unit served in World War II.  The cross represents hospital service and the cloverleaf denotes renewed health and good fortune.  The color green relates to the herbs used in making medicine and was in ancient times the color of the academic gown of physicians.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 5 June 1969.
